Vent Types to Know A true vent is a vertical pipe attached to a drain line that travels through the roof with no water running through it.

So a vent pipe the same diameter as the building sewer needs to connect from the drainage system and extend through the roof undiminished in size. The re-vent or revent pipe is routed upwards above the fixture and then horizontally over to a tee that attaches it to the main stack vent pipe.

Locate your main plumbing drain line. It will be found in a basement or crawlspace coming straight down from your house. Vent pipes work in that same manner.

Once the wand only produces a signal over a single area but goes quiet when you wave it around you have successfully found the end of the detector. Through traps all fixtures are connected to waste lines which in turn take the waste to a soil stack or soil vent pipe. Its the U-shaped piece of pipe beneath your sinks and behind the toilets.
